New Blue Hat

One of the nice things about living where I do in San Francisco is that Imaginiknit is right around the corner. Oh, how I love Imaginiknit. Oh, what a burden on my wallet that love is.

Anyway, the other day Emily and I walked into Imaginiknit (my second time in one week, awful, I know, but she was going to France the day after and really wanted to go, and I wouldn’t have been a good friend if I had refused). We started browsing through the sock yarn (she, a knitter desirous of a pair of warm socks to cuddle her through the Chicago winter), and I looked up and saw to my delight and dismay a skein of beautiful slate blue Cascade Magnum yarn. I tried to resist, but…

Long story short, here is a hat I made of it:

This is what it looks like up close (what beautiful yarn!),

this is what it looks like on me,

and this is what it looks like from the back.

Oh glorious consumerism!

Black Hat w/ Brim and Blue Stripes

I made this one up and down the highways.  It was my first time making a hat that was all single crochet, and I think it turned out pretty well.

Lots of firsts! It was also my first time making a hat with a brim.

This is what it looks like on:

And it is also for sale on Etsy!

Jil’s Elf Hat

My sister is turning 19 on Monday, so I wanted to make her something.  Her request was a “funky” hat — “You make a lot of hats,” she said, “but they’re all plain.”  So here was my attempt at funkiness.

It was difficult to keep the shape even while I was making this little pattern, and also the fact that all the yarns were different types and weights didn’t help so much.  I think it looks ok though!

Here are the ear-flaps — a key part of the request.

And now I am the elf!

Black, White, and Purple Squiggly Hat

Speaking of hats and trains, I started this one on the same train ride, but it wasn’t finished until Glasgow.

It resulted in my first crochet sale ever! Amazing!

Sam’s Hat

Backtracking chronologically a little bit, this hat for Sam started in London, and finished somewhere between York and Edinburgh.

Here it is in detail, or actually just zoomed in; I didn’t manage to really document it so much.
